Review & Compare the 2019 Ram 1500 at Larry H. Miller Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram Surprise

A Much-Needed Update Comes with the All-New 2019 Ram 1500

Saying it was needed isn't to say the previous model years haven't been impressive, but that they were rather unchanged between releases. Ram found a formula that worked, and rolled with it. Clearly, this wasn't an issue as the Ram 1500 remains one of the top pickups on the market, and this update brings along a lot to keep it there.

Ram trucks offer a range of possibilities for every driver, from trims that cater to those looking for a capable work truck without an extraordinary amount of luxury features, all the way up to trims with all of those luxury features, some of which you didn't even know would be available in a vehicle. Trim options include Ram 1500 Tradesman, 1500 Big Horn/Lone Star (the Texas-exclusive version), 1500 Rebel, 1500 Laramie, 1500 Laramie Longhorn, and the Ram 1500 Rebel.

Overall, the Ram 1500 has been a staple in the lineup since Ram became a standalone brand in 2009. It is even more impressive to see that a brand less than a decade old is competing head-to-head with companies that have over 100 years of tradition behind them.

New Engineering for a Classic Design

The 2019 Ram 1500 got an update where it needed it, but its style doesn't qualify for that category. The Ram pickup trucks have a strong and stocky look to them - as do trucks from all manufacturers - and that probably won't be changing anytime soon, but they have made sure it was made of better materials. There is more high-strength steel in the frame, box, and cab to give it a more solid build, and the aluminum hood and tailgate help to reduce some of the weight without sacrificing performance or capability. The 2019 Ram 1500 actually weighs less than the 2018 models.

Other updates include heavy-duty shocks, progressive-rate rear springs, splayed frame rails, and dynamic front crumple zones to help make this the strongest Ram 1500 ever.

Along with being the strongest, it has the features to make it the most aerodynamic truck. The class-exclusive Active Front Air Dam, active grille shitter, and active-level four corner air suspension reduce drag by 9% for best-in-class aerodynamics.

With a new exterior comes new color options. This iteration of the Ram 1500 can be offered in Bright White, Maximum Steel, Rugged Brown, Diamond Black, Black Forest Green, Blue Streak, Billet Silver, Delmonico Red, Patriot Blue, Granite Crystal, Flame Red, and Ivory.

Familiar Engine Options with a Twist

The engines that can come in your Ram 1500 share many of the same qualities of Ram models of the past, but are ultimately very different. A 3.6-Liter Pentastar V6 is still available, making roughly the same power when compared to previous generations: 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. The new addition to this engine is eTorque technology to improve performance in low-RPM ranges, getting you moving easier than ever before.

If this doesn't sound like enough power, you can opt for a 5.7-Liter HEMI® V8 that makes 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. Without eTorque, you'll be able to tow up to 11,610 pounds, but the eTorque version of this engine is capable of towing a best-in-class 12,750 pounds.

You'll also be able to experience the class-exclusive TorqueFlite® eight-speed automatic transmission to optimize shift changes for the best efficiency and performance.

How Luxurious Do You Want Your 2019 Ram 1500?

Even if you are just using a truck for your job, there is no reason it can't have advanced features to make you more comfortable while you are behind the wheel. The Tradesman is more of a bare-bones trim (even though it still comes with some of the most modern features), but once you get to upgrading, you'll be choosing from the most advanced interior options. Active Noise Cancellation cuts back on the noise from the world outside your truck, while a 19-speaker, 900-watt Harman Kardon Premium Audio System can make the most of the music inside. Other available features include reclining rear seats, front heated and front and rear ventilated seats, and a largest-in-class 12-inch touchscreen for Uconnect Infotainment and Navigation.

If you think the Ram 1500 being as premium as possible is an exaggeration, Ram has advertised that the 1500 Limited/Laramie offer 58% more leather than comparable models from top competitors like Ford and Chevrolet. They wanted to emphasize that these trucks are for more than those looking to push the towing and loading capacities, but are also for those of you who might work in an office.
